GreenRack™’s Features

Augmented-Reality Augmented Reality view of downtown Toronto, through the camera of an iPad.

In today’s world of ubiquitous connectivity, people expect to have easy access to digital information and documents – when and where they need them.

GreenRack™ is a cloud-service that allows organizations to quickly and easily publish documents for instant access in a variety of innovative ways. GreenRack™ is ideally suited to target mobile users, and it works with Android, Apple, BlackBerry and Windows.

To publish information in GreenRack™, simply login from a web browser and define your documents, uploading or pointing to the associated content, such as PDF files, images, videos, PPT presentations, etc.

Documents can be accessed through GreenRack™’s Information Concierge, which is launched automatically simply by scanning associated QR codes or NFC tags attached to posters or physical racks.

Documents can also be presented using Virtual Racks displayed on digital signage screens, or interactively on touch screens or websites.

If applicable, documents can also be geo-tagged and viewed through the world’s leading mapping services and Augmented Reality browsers.

In all cases, GreenRack™’s Information Concierge identifies the user’s preferred language and device, as well as date and time, and presents a menu of actions to access the most appropriate content.

Publishers also gain access to rich real-time analytics to better understand and reach their audiences.

Document Traditional rack: high environmental and financial cost, fast obsolescence, content limited to printed paper, no interaction with end-user.

Document

Although we use the term ‘document’ for easier communication, GreenRack™ supports many types of content, including PDF files, Office documents, videos, audio, HTML web pages, web links, web queries that return dynamic content, etc. In general, GreenRack™ can support the same content types that are supported on the target audience devices.

Publishers can choose to upload and host documents in GreenRack™, or to point to an existing repository or content management system.

Green Tags

To facilitate access from a mobile device, GreenRack™ takes advantage of
QR Codes Quick Response Codes and NFC tags Near-Field Communications .

GreenRack™ generates the QR codes and NFC tag URL’s automatically when Racks and Documents are defined. These codes and tags remain constant, even after you update the associated content.

QR Codes are just encoded images, so they are essentially free. You can copy-paste them on documents, emails, posters, presentations, etc.

NFC Tags are minute computers with a looped antenna, and are available in many formats: stickers, bracelets, plastic cards, key chains, etc. Depending on the format, they can range in price from $1 to $15.

NFC tags can only be read by touching them, whereas QR Codes can be read from a distance.

QR Codes are readable by any mobile device with a camera, whereas NFC is only available on devices that have the proper antenna. Current Apple iPhone and iPad models don’t have NFC antenna; many Android, BlackBerry and Windows devices do.

To accommodate the majority of users and devices, we normally recommend using Green Tags that combine QR Code and NFC.

Information Concierge

The Information Concierge is a menu that is presented to the User whenever s/he requests to access content from GreenRack™.

This entry point menu presents a pre-defined list of Actions that the User can take on the associated content, such as read an overview, open/download the actual content, email it, share using social media, subscribe to updates, provide feedback, etc.

GreenRack™ automatically detects the device being used to access it, as well as the date-time and
language GreenRack™ does not do automatic translation of content, it only serves the content that has been provided by the Publisher , and responds with the most appropriate menu, format and content.

All User interactions are logged anonymously to allow for analysis, while respecting privacy regulations.

Virtual Rack

A Virtual Rack is a digital representation of a collection of documents that are presented to the User as a group.

Virtual Racks can be represented using several conceptual paradigms, including:
Bookshelf – use in tablets, digital signs, kiosks and webpages
Carousel – use in digital signs and kiosks
3D Float – use in digital signs and kiosks
List – use in smartphones, tablets and websites
• WordPress plug-in – use in WordPress websites
• Map: see below – use in smartphones, tablets and websites
• AR World: see below – use in smartphones and tablets
Custom Image Maps – use in smartphones, tablets, websites, digital signs, and kiosks, as per customization

For ease of use, content in a Rack can be:
• Grouped by category, glossary, language, device format, or file type.
• Filtered by category, title, description, or keywords.

This gives you great flexibility to very easily present the right content in the most applicable manner for the audience and context.

In addition, we also offer real-time queries that return XML or JSON, so your development team can integrate GreenRack content and functionality into your own applications.
GreenRack™ automatically detects the device being used to display the Virtual Rack, as well as the date-time and language GreenRack™ does not do automatic translation of content, it only serves the content that has been provided by the Publisher , and presents the most appropriate menu, format and content.

Maps For documents that are defined as having a geographical context, GreenRack automatically generates a real-time Map feed with customizable markers.

Maps

For documents that are defined as having a geographical context Having an address, location or latitude-longitude coordinates, GreenRack™ automatically generates a real-time Map feed with customizable markers.

Clicking on a map marker will present the end-user with a link that launches the Information Concierge, just as if s/he had scanned a Green Tag or clicked on a Virtual Rack.

Maps are presented on the user device’s default Mapping application, providing access to standard mapping and way finding functions using a familiar interface.

Augmented Reality

Augmented Reality (AR) refers to the presentation of data as an overlay over our view of the world (not unlike a fighter pilot’s visors in use for the last half century).

For documents that are defined as having a geographical context Having an address, location or latitude-longitude coordinates, GreenRack™ automatically generates a real-time feed to the most popular Augmented Reality browsers (Wikitude, Junaio and LayAR; all freely downloadable) which then present the location-driven overlays with markers for each document.

Clicking on an AR marker will present the end-user with a link that launches the Information Concierge, just as if s/he had scanned a Green Tag or clicked on a Map marker or on a Virtual Rack.

In addition to camera view overlays, AR browsers also display markers on a Map view and a List view, and provide access to way-finding functionality.

Advanced Analytics GreenRack™ collects detailed analytics that help you understand your audience and fine tune your message for effective communication and engagement.

Advanced Analytics

To allow for analysis and gathering of insights, GreenRack™ keeps detailed logs of end-user interactions with Racks and with Documents. GreenRack™’s administrative interface provides real-time views of the most common statistics derived from these logs.

For more comprehensive analysis, Administrators can also download detailed data in CSV Excel format, ready for use in Pivot Tables, Pivot Charts, Power Maps, etc. Our Market Partners can provide expert advice in the use of analytics tools and the metrics that are relevant to your industry.

Note that to comply with privacy regulations, these logs do not contain Personally Identifiable Information (PII), however, publishers may use GreenRack™’s User Device Registration module to ask end-users to opt-in and allow linking the logs to PII.
